14 October 2019

Cyprus was moved and filled with pride after athlete Marios Georgiou secured his qualification on 7 October 2019 for the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games. The family of Petrolina is especially proud of the Cypriot champion’s success in gymnastics, as Marios is the Company’s “adopted” athlete through the “Adopt an athlete on the way to Tokyo” program of the Cyprus Olympic Committee.

Marios Georgiou qualified for the Artistic Gymnastics World Championship in Stuttgart, becoming the tenth Cypriot athlete to have qualified for the largest sporting event of the world. Petrolina congratulates him and wishes him every success for the future.

The “Adopt an Athlete on the way to Tokyo” program was launched last summer. The program gives an opportunity to companies, organisations and individuals to sponsor the athletes of the Cypriot pre-Olympic team, supporting them in their effort to qualify and succeed in Tokyo.

Petrolina has been supporting Cypriot sports for many decades now, through sponsorships and other activities. The values and benefits of sports for society as a whole and each person individually, are in line with the values and principles that the Company implements through its Corporate Social Responsibility program and contribution policy.
