With a focus on strengthening fire prevention and effective firefighting, as well as protecting the natural environment, Petrolina announced its “Together Against Wildfires” programme on Tuesday, 22 September 2026.

As part of the programme, Petrolina donated 12 High Performance Foam Extinguisher VARIO Carbon 13 systems, with a total value exceeding €70,000, to strengthen the operational equipment of the Cyprus Fire Service. These advanced, high-performance portable firefighting systems are designed for rapid intervention and immediate fire suppression, using minimal amounts of water.

The programme presentation and equipment handover took place during a press conference at the company’s headquarters in Larnaca, led by Dinos Lefkaritis, Executive Managing Director (CEO), and Georgia Lefkariti, Executive Director of Petrolina (Holdings) Public Ltd. The event was attended by the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Costas Fitiris, the Chief Fire Officer of the Cyprus Fire Service, Nikos Longinos, and other government officials.

In his address, Mr Dinos Lefkaritis stressed that “the fires of recent years have reaffirmed the importance of prevention, preparedness and, above all, cooperation. In this context, we remain firmly committed to supporting the vital work of the Fire Service and the people on the front line, contributing to the protection of our country.”

Presenting the programme, Ms Georgia Lefkariti outlined its three key pillars: Prevention, Response, and Information and Awareness. Activities include support for volunteer groups, training, patrols, exercises and assistance with operational needs, as well as the provision of free fuel for aircraft and ground vehicles in the event of a fire, in coordination with the Petrolina Emergency Support Volunteer Team. Podcasts, informational videos and school visits will also be organised, focusing on fire prevention and effective firefighting.

In addition, Petrolina supports five of the eleven volunteer groups registered with the Cyprus Fire Service by providing fuel for their operational vehicles, assisting their work during the fire season and in other emergencies. These are SupportCY, the Kitasweather Volunteer Firefighting Team, the Volunteer Emergency Department (ETEA), the Emergency Department of the Blue Heart Foundation, and the Atlas Volunteer Forest Protection Team.

During the ceremony, Mr Nikos Longinos warmly thanked Petrolina “for its longstanding cooperation, which extends beyond a single initiative or a specific period and has developed through joint training activities, exercises, sponsorships and practical support for real operational needs.”

Mr. Minister Costas Fitiris thanked Petrolina for its longstanding support, stressing that “the contribution of these 12 portable firefighting systems is particularly valuable because it is more than simply an equipment donation. It addresses a specific need identified by the Fire Service itself.” He further highlighted the meaningful contribution of the “Together Against Wildfires” programme, describing it as “an approach rooted in responsibility and cooperation that deserves to be cultivated even further in our country.”
