Petrolina supports “Sophia Foundation for Children”
Supporting the charitable programme Let’s Hippo – “I cook and I offer”
03 December 2018

After visiting the Presidential Palace, the Mall of Cyprus and Larnaca Airport, along with its 19 “siblings”, the hippo that Petrolina ‘adopted’ in the framework of supporting the charitable programme “I cook and I offer” of “Sophia Foundation for Children”, will be permanently exhibited at the Company’s headquarters in Larnaca!

Each Hippo was assigned to its ‘adoptive’ hippo-supporter company, at a draw which took place at the Presidential Palace, under the auspices of the President of the Republic. Each of the 20 companies, contributed €5,000 to adopt a hippo. Let’s Hippo was an original idea of the “Sophia Foundation”, and it was created with a view to make children happy, by offering free meals at schools.

Throughout their journey, which started last June, the 20 hippos sent messages of love, care and support to Cypriot children. A large number of people embraced the effort and participated in the actions and events of the “Let’s Hippo” initiative. All proceeds went towards supporting the work of Sophia Foundation as well as continuing the programme, which offers free food to children at all-day primary schools. The hippos were designed pro-bono by well-known Cypriot artists.

The hippo that Petrolina ‘adopted’ is called “Hippo Koukoumas” and was created by artist Glafkos Koumides. The “Hippo Koukoumas” was made from fibreglass as have the other 19 hippos (with dimensions of 80cm x 120cm x 160cm).

The Cypriot petroleum company Petrolina, through its Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, supports well-known charitable foundations, as well as actions and events that address social problems and support socially vulnerable groups and individuals.
